Guardiola reacts to leading Man City to Premier League title

Pep Guardiola hailed the young players in his squad and promised there is so much more to come after they emerged Premier League champions on Sunday.

West Brom’s defeat of Manchester United meant City became the 2017/18 Premier League champions and Guardiola has reacted by praising the young players who have contributed their quota in ensuring his first Premier League title.

“OK, (29-year-old) Sergio Aguero is a genius, a top player,” said Guardiola. “But the other guys are 20, 21 years old, so we won with guys so young.

“Playing in the Champions League at that age, sometimes it is complicated. But maybe it will be a lesson for the future for them and next season.’

Leroy Sane, 22, and Gabriel Jesus, 21, were two of City’s standout players this season and Guardiola pointed to the squad’s youth as a massive factor for next season.

Guardiola also went on to identify City’s ability to deny other clubs scoring chances as one of the most important factors in winning the title.

He said: “In general we were so, so stable. The most important detail is not the goals you concede but the chances you concede and every game was few, (despite) playing so offensively.”
