Tottenham striker Harry Kane has hit back at Virgil van Dijk after the Liverpool defender accused the forward of diving to win a penalty.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur settled for a 2-2 draw at the Anfield on Sunday but the game was marred by controversies after Tottenham was awarded to a penalty in the closing 10 minutes of the game.
Kane was brought down in the area by Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius inside Liverpool’s area.
The striker was in an offside position when he got the pass despite that he was unable to convert the penalty kick as Karius made a fine save.
Mohamed Salah restored Liverpool’s lead but Kane got another penalty when Van Dijk attempted to clear a ball but mistakenly hit Erik Lamela in the area and Kane made no mistake to get the equalizer from the spot.
‘I think it is a dive,’ said the Liverpool defender. ‘You see him [Kane] diving clearly and no one is talking about it but I think it is a dive.’
But when asked if Karius had made contact with him, Kane replied: ‘Yeah. ‘He has dived, he has got in the way and I’m a player, I’m not going to jump out of the way because it’s football. ‘I’ve definitely felt contact and I’ve gone down.’
When asked about Tottenham’s second penalty, Kane replied: ‘I thought the linesman showed amazing character to give that because a lot happened for the first one about the linesman so to give that penalty was massive and it was a penalty.’
