Romelu Lukaku scored a brace as Manchester United beat Huddersfield to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Belgium striker scored an early goal to put United in the lead, but it was far from a straightforward win for the Red Devils.

In what was the third time both teams were facing each other this season (twice in the Premier League) United knew a defeat would end what could be their only real chance of winning a silverware this season.

But if they had such fears, it was quickly doused in the third minute as an amazing individual effort from Lukaku ended with a strike from inside the penalty area. He sent the ball precisely into the bottom left corner to put the Red Devils in the lead.

While the goal put United in the lead, it didn’t exactly put them in the driving seat as per dominance, as Huddersfield also rattled the Red Devils’ defence on a number of occasions. However, United would find the back of the net again just before the half time break, but the video assistant referee ruled it out for offside, just Juan Mata thought he had extended their lead.

At the restart, the Terriers continued to pile the pressure on Jose Mourinho’s men, and looked like scoring on a number of occasions, but never did and they would be punished soon enough.

On 55 minutes, Lukaku made a great solo run after being put through by Alexis Sanchez and he pulled the trigger from inside the box, beating Jonas Lossl with a strike into the bottom left corner.

There were a number of chances created after that goal by both sides, but none materialized as United progressed to the fifth round of the competition.
