Players from both sides were engaged in a scuffle towards the end of Chelsea’s 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, following Sergio Aguero’s lunge at David Luiz, which earned the City striker a straight red card.

City midfielder Fernandinho was also sent off, for grabbing Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas by the throat and sending him toppling over advertising hoardings.

According to reports, the FA will review video evidence of the ugly episode, as well as taking in referee Anthony Taylor’s report, before deciding on what action to take.

But both clubs are certain to face disciplinary action for the ill-tempered end to Chelsea’s 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, which kept Antonio Conte’s side top, according to the Daily Mirror.

Aguero will be hit with a four-match ban for his dismissal - three games for his red card and an extra game because he has already been sent off this season. City’s star striker will not play again until his side’s visit to Liverpool on New Year’s Eve, while Fernandinho will miss three games, both enforced absences a huge blow to boss Pep Guardiola.

Chelsea and Tottenham were handed fines of £375,000 and £225,000 respectively following the mass brawl that broke out between their players at Stamford Bridge last season.
