Kelechi Iheanacho's Manchester City future faces uncertainty after the Cityzens' head coach, Pep Guardiola, hinted at squad overhaul despite revealing his pride at how his men performed against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Spaniard watched his side come from a goal down to claim a 1-1 draw against Jurgen Klopp's men without the Nigerian who was named on the bench. The draw means City missed the chance to draw level on points with second-placed Tottenham.
Although Guardiola admitted to being pleased to be working with his current squad, he revealed he is targeting a number of changes and it is believed the misfiring Nigerian youngster who has fallen out of favour
with the former Barcelona could be one of the casualties.
"I know them well, they know me, but of course I want to change many things in the next season,'' he said.
"We will, of course, make changes but not what people say, because every club will do that - but I am so happy to work with these guys. After the Champions League defeat, two days we were so sad. The training sessions, we didn’t talk too much. We fought and showed spirit, it is the happiest day of my life as a manager. We conceded but we created more."
Iheanacho has only managed five starts from 16 Premier League appearances this season and has found the back of the net on four occasions.
Guardiola and his troops secured a point thanks to Sergio Aguero’s equaliser
James Milner’s penalty. This result followed the midweek Champions League exit at the hands of Monaco who overturned a two-goal deficit to dump out the former Premier League champions.
