Koscielny confirms successful surgery

Arsenal defender and captain Laurent Koscielny has undergone a successful surgery to repair his ruptured achilles tendon and will be out for six months. 

Koscielny who has required daily treatment for more than a year while managing a longstanding Achilles problem collapsed in the early running of last Thursday’s Europa League semi-final, second-leg at Atlético Madrid.

The 32-year old defender who was due to retire as a France player after the World Cup finals in Russia this summer took to Twitter on Tuesday to provide an update on his situation.

"Thank you for all the messages received since my injury. The operation went well, it is a new stage that begins for me.

"I am determined to fight, not only for me but also for my family, my friends and all the people who support me very quickly lolo."

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Santi Cazorla, a long-term injury casualty, would not enjoy a cameo appearance before the end of the season – as Per Mertesacker did against Burnley. The Frenchman also suggested that there had been progress on Jack Wilshere’s contract talks. Wilshere’s deal expires in June.
