Ligue 1: Neymar set to make PSG debut against Guingamp

Ligue 1 By: Ikponmwosa Umweni | 11/08/2017

AS Monaco started their Ligue 1 title campaign with a slim against Toulouse FC with a 3-2 win at the Stade Louis II on Friday night while dethroned Champions Paris Saint-Germain who now have Neymar in their ranks defeated newly promoted side Amines 2-0 at the Parc des Princes on 4 August.

Defending Champion Monaco is going away to play Dijon Sunday evening at Stade Gaston-Gerard, who lost the opening day defeat to Marseille while former Champions PSG travels away to tackle last season 10th place side Guingamp in the week fixtures.

However, Rennes host Lyon in Roazhon Park Stadium, while Nantes take on Marseille at Stade de la Beaujoire.

 Dijon vs Monaco

The hosts have barely saved the top tier status in the last term and it seems that Olivier Dall’Oglio and his men are in for a yet another struggling season.

The Mustards sold their top scorer Lois Diony to Saint-Etienne leaving the hole in the final third.

Diony’s absence can best be notable by the look at Dijon’s most recent results since the hosts failed to find the back of the net in four of their last five games (including pre-season friendlies and the season opener with Olympique Marseille).

Leonardo Jardim still has a massive grey cloud above his head when it comes to potential departure of his star man Kylian Mbappe who is very close to Real Madrid move.

Mbappe featured the opening game against Toulouse, but he was not among three scorers.

His fellow striker Radamel Falcao, however, was, confirming a decent shape and he should be capable of exploiting the holes in Dijon’s defensive line to the max this Sunday

Dijon vs Monaco: Head to head

Monaco dominated the match-up with Dijon historically as Les Monegasques won three and drew two of their five clashes with Dijon.

The previous meeting at Stade Gaston-Gerard saw a 1-1 draw.

Prediction: Dijon 1-2 Monaco

Guingamp vs Paris Saint Germain

This Sunday will see Guingamp host perennial Champions at the Stade de Roudourou Stadium

The two-time Coupe de France winners kicked-off the new Ligue 1 season in positive fashion as they swept past opponents FC Metz with a 3 -1

Guingamp will have been pleased with their finish last term, managing to get 10th on the table. With a number of players have been signed in the close season, with Pedro Rebocho, Felix Eboa Eboa, and Franck Tabanou all coming into the club in the past couple of months.

PSG have been the focus of the football world with their purchase of Brazilian star Neymar from Barcelona. He is almost certain to make his debut for the club in this game and will be one of the favorites to get on the scoresheet.

Last week it was the team’s talisman Edinson Cavani who notched alongside Javier Pastore as they cruised to a 2-0 victory against Amiens. PSG coach Unai Emery may well choose to bring Neymar on from the bench in this one, with the decorated striker not having had much game time recently before his transfer.

Prediction: Guingamp 0-3 Paris Saint Germain

Rennes vs Lyon

Rennes managed a creditable 1-1 draw in last week’s visit to Troyes, with Tell scoring late on to equalise. Meanwhile have brought in nine new players, letting 10 leave Roazhon Park over the summer.

Lyon began the Ligue 1 season with a bang as they thumped newly promoted Strasbourg 4-0, but they are almost certain to face a tougher test against Rennes on Friday night.

Rennes vs Lyon: Head to Head

In the last 36 meetings, Lyon has won 16, Rennes have won seven and there have been 13 draws.

Prediction: Rennes1-1 Lyon

Nantes vs Marseille

Nantes welcome Marseille in the second round of French Ligue 1. After losing their first game in hands of Vicent Enyeama side Lille.

However, they host Marseille in the first game of the season in front of their own fans so they will be hoping to grab a victory that will significantly boost their confidence.

On the other hand, the visitors have made a clear statement at the start of the season. Marseille outplayed Dijon with 3-0 at Stade Vélodrome in front of almost 51 thousand fans. It was a perfect overture for this season as Marseille want to join PSG and Monaco in the top of the league.

Prediction: Nantes 1- 2 Marseille
