Ligue 1 wrap: Cavani nets twice as Monaco win at Bordeaux

Paris Saint Germain continued their dominance at the summit of Ligue 1, comfortably sweeping aside Nice helped largely by an inspired performance from Edinson Cavani in the absence of Neymar was watching on from the stands after recently picking up a red card against Marseille.

Thomas Lemar scored in Ligue 1 for the first time this season as Monaco won 2-0 at Bordeaux to keep the pressure on PSG, while  Lyon beat Metz 2-0 to climb up to third place in the French league.

PSG 3-0 Nice

Edinson Cavani scored a brace as Paris St-Germain overcame the absence of Neymar to beat Nice to remain four-point on top of Ligue 1 table.

Uruguay forward Cavani twice found the net in the opening 31 minutes to take his tally for the season to 11 goals in 10 league games.

PSG were without £200m world record signing Neymar who was suspended after being sent off against Marseille as the host remain unbeaten

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria assisted both of Cavani's goals and own goal from ex Bayern Munich defender Dante.

Nice finished third in Ligue 1 last season, yet this was their seventh defeat in 11 matches this season as Lucien Favre's side are just one point above the relegation zone having played more games than their rivals.

Bordeaux 0 - 2 Monaco

Monaco shrugged off the absence of leading scorer Radamel Falcao as they eased to a 2-0 victory away at Bordeaux in Ligue 1 on Saturday. 

Falcao who is the league-leading scorer with 13 goals from nine matches this season, but the Colombia international sat out the match at Stade Matmut-Atlantique due to a thigh strain.

In his absence, Senegal international Keita Balde and Lemar netted twice in quick succession early in the second half as the defending champions, who close back to within four points of league leaders PSG.

Lyon 2 - 0 Metz 

Nabil Fekir continued his return to form by scoring both goals as Lyon beat Metz 2-0 to climb up to third place in the French league on Sunday.

Fekir's first effort came in the sixth minute after playing a neat one-two with Brazilian left-back Marcal. He struck his second on 20 minutes after running onto a cut back from Netherlands right back Kenny Tete.
