The Champions League resumes at Anfield as Liverpool host Bayern Munich in the round of 16 first leg clash on Tuesday, here are details you need know before the commencement of the match.

TEAM NEWS:

LIVERPOOL:

The Reds will be without their defensive stalwart Virgil van Dirk when they face the Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp would also miss the services of Dejan Lovern who is down with a hamstring injury and Joe Gomez is also not in for the game due to an ankle injury.

Klopp will provide a makeshift centre-back to curtail the attack of the German Champions.

BAYERN MUNICH:

The visitors will miss the service of Thomas Muller due to suspension and Kingsley Coman was given the nod to play against Liverpool after he limped off during the clash against Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Friday.

HEAD TO HEAD:

Liverpool has a respectable record from their previous encounters with Bayern Munich, though the two sides have only met seven times previously, with the last clash between the two coming in the 2001 UEFA Super Cup.

Bayern claimed victory in the sides' first contest, in the 1971-72 European Cup Winners' Cup semi-finals, but that remains their only win in this fixture.

Klopp’s men have been in tremendous form this season, though they manage to claim the second spot in the Group stage of the Champions League as they are yet to really stamp their domestic form in Europe.

BAYERN MUNICH:

The Bavarians have not been in best of form this season but they are gradually getting better as the season progresses, Niko Kovac’s men came out of the Group stage as the top team, but they are yet to perform at their best this season in Europe.
