Lobi Stars name new coach of 2019-20 NPFL season

Lobi Stars have named new head coach of Gbenga Ogunbote ahead of the 2019-20 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The 54-year-old Gateway United, Sunshine Stars, Shooting manager signed a one-year deal with the Markudi based club 

Ogunbote guided the Flying Antelope of Rangers to a third-place finish at the just-concluded NPFL Championship playoffs at Agege Stadium and also clinched a Confederations Cup spot but the gaffer leaves Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium outfit after talks over a contract extension fell through with the Enugu side.

The Kebbi State-born tactician will take over from Evan Ogenyi, who acted on an interim basis following the demise of late Solomon Ogbeide as Lobi Stars finish fifth-place last season and miss continental football next term.

Ogunbote two years with Rangers where he won his first-ever silverware in two decades as a coach when he guided the Flying Antelopes to their maiden AITEO Cup title in 35 years, defeating Kano Pillars 4-2 on penalties after regulation time ended 3-3 in 2018.
