Liverpool crashed out of FA Cup in the fourth round as they host West Bromwich Albion to a 2-3 scoreline at Anfield on Saturday night.
An early first-half goal from Firmino placed Liverpool ahead of their visitors until Rodriguez came through with an equalizer which was closely followed by a brace from the same player. The third goal for West Brom was an own goal which was launched by Joel Matip. The second half recorded only a lone goal from Mo Salah.
Firmino opened scores for the Reds at the 5th minute of the first half. A terrible blunder from West Brom Albom's centre-back
Johnny Evans handed the ball to Mo Salah whose strike was saved by the goalkeeper until Firmino came through with a soft chip the went past the goalkeeper and found the back of the net.
Unfortunately, Liverpool fans didn't enjoy the feelings that come with taking the lead as the visitors equalised
in 68 seconds following the home team's opener. West Brom responded with a goal at the 7th minute as Jay Rodriguez handed his team with an unexpected goal that kept the scoreline to 1-1.
Surprisingly, West Brom took the lead at the 11th minute as Rodriguez launched a brace to put his team a goal ahead of the home team with a scoreline that read 2-1 in favour
of the visitors.
West Brom Aibon's third goal which came in at the 20th minute was disqualified by the referee whose decision was based on an offside position against the visitors which was dictated with the help of VAR. It was the first time in England that VAR has been used to cancel a goal out. And the reason for that is a West Brom player is just offside ahead of the header for the goal.
awarded a penalty at the 23rd minute. An attack by the Red's forwards, Salah and Mane resulted to the pulling down of the Egyptian by Livermore. Again, with the help of the VAR, a penalty was awarded to the home team but Firmino's strike hit the top corner of the woodwork.
West Brom made changes at the 38th minute as Robson-Kanu got injured and was replaced by Phillips.
Liverpool conceded the third goal at the added time, all blame to their porous defence
. A long free-kick to the back post, headed away, Krychowiak played the ball onside
and fired it across the box and Matip touched it inside. Liverpool were
indeed in shambles at the back!
The first half ended in a 1-3 scoreline which went in favour
of West Bromwich Aibon as Liverpool struggled at Anfield.
The second half kicked off as Liverpool struggled for goals despite several opportunities and attempts that proved abortive until Mohamed Salah came through and netted the second goal at the 78th minute. A great finish from Salah. The ball was played into the area, Firmino lai it off and Salah placed the shot behind a wall of West Brom players, using them as a shield to the goalkeeper's view. It was the Egyptian's 11th goal in the last 12 appearances for Liverpool. At this point, the scoreline read, Liverpool 2-3 West Brom.
The match ended in favour
of West Bromwich Albion who dented Liverpool's FA Cup hopes as they emerged victorious with a 2-3 scoreline at Anfield.
