Lyon captain Nail Fekir ensured Lyon defeated Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium during their Champions League group match opener with an aim to prove a point to his suitors.

The Lyon attacker was on the verge of signing for Liverpool during the summer before the Anfield outfit pulled out of the deal base on medical grounds.

Fekir scored the second goal for Lyon in the 43rd minute in their 2-1 win over Manchester City.

Unsurprisingly after the clash, he was asked if he had a point to prove after his failed move to Anfield.

"I want to prove I'm a good player but the most important thing is the group,"

"We are very happy to win here. It is not an easy game and City are a very good team,” he told Viasport.

Manchester City will travel to Germany in WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena to face Hoffenheim for their second match.
