Mainz 0-2 Bayern Munich: Super Eagles duo missing in action - FCNaija

German Bundesliga By: Ayodeji Tunde | 03/02/2018

The Super Eagles duo of Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah were missing in action on Saturday as Bayern Munich handed a 2-0 defeat to Mainz at the Opel Arena.

Franck Ribery in the 33rd minute and James Rodriguez in the 44th minute secured victory for Bayern Munich as they increased their points tally to 53; thus enjoying a massive 18-point gap at the top of the table.

Mainz were made to rue their missed opportunity, though, with Ribery blasting a low shot through a crowd on a half-volley following a corner that was headed his way in the 33rd minute.

The Frenchman, who spent several weeks sidelined with a knee injury earlier this season, was visibly delighted having scored his second goal of the Bundesliga campaign. And it possibly came at just the right time, with Champions League action just over the horizon.

Bayern doubled their lead just before halftime, only seconds after Muller missed a great chance. Tolisso found an unmarked James Rodriguez in the opposition's box, and the Colombian wasted no time blasting home after showing great control to chest the ball down onto his boot.

Elsewhere, On-loan Liverpool striker Divock Origi scored his fifth goal of the season in Wolfsburg's 1-1 draw against Stuttgart.

Meanwhile, two ex-Premier League players netted in Hertha Berlin's 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim.

Former Leicester striker Andrej Kramaric opened the scoring for the visitors from the penalty spot in the first half, before Chelsea old boy Salomon Kalou levelled in the second half.

Second-placed Bayer Leverkusen drew 0-0 at Freiburg
