Mali beat Flying Eagles to reach U-20 AFCON final in Niger

Mali beat Flying Eagles of Nigeria 4-3 on penalties to reach the on-going U-20 African Nations Cup final after regulation time had ended 1-1 at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché in Niger Republic.

Mali took the lead courtesy of Mamodu Traore in the 78 minutes of the encounter after a first-half goalless draw but Pascal Odureogbor in the 85th minutes equalize for Nigeria eight minutes later to send the first semi-final to extra time.

There were no real chances by either side in extra-time, before the lottery of the penalty shootout.

However, the Malians goalkeeper Koita denied Flying Eagles to win their eighth U20 AFCON title after saving Valentine Uzornwafor and Okon Aniekeme penalties.

Nigeria will now play for the bronze medal in the Third Place match against the loser of Senegal vs South Africa tie on Saturday.
