Man City - Newcastle: Cityzens set to return to winning ways - FCNaija

Manchester City is set to return to winning ways against Newcastle United in their next Premier League match on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium after Liverpool ended their unbeaten run in the League during their visit to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp's men.



Manchester City will be without Fabian Delph after he limped out of Sunday's defeat to Liverpool.

The Premier League leaders will miss some vital players during the weekend clash against Newcastle,  Benjamin Mendy is still out, captain Vincent Kompany will also be absent due to injury while Gabriel Jesus and Foden are also nursing injuries and will be ruled out against Newcastle on


Rafael Benitez will be without the services of some of his players due to injuries, Florian Lejeune is nursing a foot injury, Aleksandar Mitrovic is having a back injury, Chancel Mbemba injured his knee, Jesus Gamez is out due to an ankle injury, Dwight Gayle is suffering from a knock.


Newcastle had a better head to head record against the Etihad outfit the Magpies have won on 71 occasion while Manchester City had a victory of 66 times and 39 ended in a draw in a total of 166 meetings between the two teams.



Manchester City suffered their first defeat of the season against Liverpool at the Anfield, Pep Guardiola’s men have been in form this season and he they remained the team to beat in the Premier League having recorded 20 wins in 23 games in the Premier League.


The Magpies are 15th on the Premier League table and their season has not been so good under Rafa Benitez after helping them get a promotion to the Premier League.

Newcastle has struggled for consistency this season.



Guardiola expressed his delight, having secured the futures of two players he feels are integral to his side.

“We are so happy,” he continued. “Congratulations to the players and managers. We are so happy for them.

“Fernandinho is one of the players I have such a pleasure to have under my command.

“It is great news for the club to have both Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho with us at the Club for the future.”


“I said after (the first) game, ‘I am a manager, and I have to try and do the best for my team.’ We had some chances at the end, and we could have drawn the game,” the Spaniard said. “We will try to do well, and we will try to score goals because it is the only way to win games. It is not a cup competition where one goal can sometimes count double for you. In this case, we have to score more goals than them if we want to win, and if not, we have to score at least as many as them to draw.
