Manchester City new signing Riyad Mahrez is a major doubt for City’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea next weekend and Premier League opener against Arsenal after arriving in England on crutches and wearing a protective boot.
The 27-year-old move to Etihad for a club-record fee £60 million as the Algeria international was substituted in the 28th minute due to ankle problem in Cityzen's
3-2 win over Bayern Munich at the International Champions Cup on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola men returned to Manchester from a pre-season tour on Sunday afternoon but Mahrez was seen at the airport with a protective boot on his left foot and was walking with the help of crutches.
When asked about the extent of Mahrez’s injury after the match against Bayern, Guardiola said: "I don’t know. ‘I wasn’t in the locker room. It was his ankle. We will see, maybe it is not a problem.
"I’m concerned for many things, for injured players, players who are still not here but I am so satisfied for what all of the guys on the tour have done.’
Manchester City must also wait to see if Mahrez can recover in time for their Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 12.
