Man City vs Celtic: Guardiola picks two Nigerians to start

Champions League By: Olakunle Brown | 06/12/2016

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has made good of his promise to give game time to his fringe players by starting Nigerian duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Oluwatosin Adarabioyo in the UEFA Champions League final Group C against Celtic.

Adarabioyo is highly rated around the Etihad and was even listed in the Champions League squad ahead of the more established Yaya Toure. This evening he gets a rare start for the Citizens playing in the heart of defense alongside Pablo Maffeo with Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy providing cover from the full back positions.

Iheanacho has a very rich scoring record for the home side but has rarely played in recent times. He was a late substitute at the weekend but could not prevent Pep Guardiola’s men from going down 3-1 to Chelsea.

There is no place for Sergio Aguero in tonight’s starting line-up meaning if he doesn't come on the next time he will be seen in a Manchester City shirt will be on New Year’s eve against Liverpool in the premier league as he serves a four-match ban handed him by the English FA for his wicked lunged at David Luiz during the game against Antonio Conte’s Blues.

Manchester City have already qualified for the knockout phase of the competition and will be looking at finishing on a high with a win over Celtic at home after playing out a 3-3 draw in Scotland in the reverse fixture.
