Manchester United were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday after losing 2-1 to Sevilla at Old Trafford.Wissam Ben Yedder was the hero for the Spanish club, as his brace gave Sevilla a two-goal cushion, before Romelu Lukaku struck late in the second half to give some respite to United. However, it proved inconsequential as Vincenzo Montella’s side triumphed 2-1 on aggregate after the first leg ended 0-0.The win over Liverpool at the weekend meant more than just the three points it afforded United, as it also provided them the perfect fodder for tonight’s clash, and it looked to be evident very early on, as in the fifth minute, they went close, forcing a save from the Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico, who reacted well to deny a long-range free kick from Marcus Rashford. A déjà vu of Liverpool? We shall see. However, five minutes later, Sevilla had their chance when Ever Banega floated a good corner into the box that Joaquin Correa got on the end of, but his effort on goal scorched just over the bar.The game appeared to slow down a bit afterwards, as no chances were created until the 28th minute, when Luis Muriel picked up the ball in space and from inside the penalty area and sent a shot inches wide of the right post.Marouane Fellaini then had a chance 10 minutes later, as he ran onto a loose pass inside the box and released a tremendous shot towards the middle of the goal. However, Sergio Rico anticipated the shot and made a decent save.
