REPORT: Man Utd in talks with Brazilian midfielder

Manchester United target Fred says he is ‘flattered’ by interest from the Red Devils, but says he has been in talks with Manchester City since January.

The midfielder Fred says he is aware of a ‘strong bid’ from United in what could see him make a £52.5million move to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old player confirmed that advanced negotiations have taken place since a transfer to Manchester City fell through in the January window.

City have since switched their sights to Jorginho, of Napoli, but United expect to sign Fred before the World Cup.

Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva is leading the talks with United over a deal worth £43m plus add-ons.

Fred is due in England this weekend when Brazil fly in for a pre-World Cup friendly against Croatia at Anfield, and it’s understood that he is on stand-by to undergo a medical.

“Talks have been at an advanced stage since January,” he said.

“There was a possible transfer to City. Shortly after, both clubs, City and United talked with Shakhtar and with my agents about a possible transfer.

“If I am not mistaken, there was news of a strong bid by United.

“My agents are taking care of this, led by Gilberto Silva. He’s a very calm guy and someone I deeply trust.

“It’s an honour to be on the radar of great European coaches. They are two great coaches from Manchester, as well as our national head coach.

“I believe I have a versatility on the pitch and I’m a multi-skilled player, being able to play in both midfield positions.”
