Michael Carrick ended his Manchester United career with a hand in the goal which earned the Red Devils all three points against Watford at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

The veteran midfielder’s neat pass late in  the first half found Juan Mata, who then found Marcus Rashford, with the England striker poking home what proved to be the winner.

In a game that was his last for United, it was fitting that Carrick had a hand in the goal that handed the Red Devils the win. But before that moment, there had been other incidents that transpired in the course of the game, even if there weren’t much before the goal itself.

With second place already secured and Watford also having nothing to play for with their Premier League status guaranteed, it was evident in the way the game started, as both sides displayed some level of lethargy that wasn’t surprising seeing as nothing was riding on the game.

But then, United still controlled the game for large spells, even if there were barely any real chances created. And then on 34 minutes, Juan Mata played a lovely pass into the box and found Rashford. He tried his luck from close range and coolly struck the ball into the back of the net.

Watford was not sitting back either, as they had the occasional pop at the United defence and on one of those occasions, it nearly popped into a goal.

A good cross from the right found Richarlison, who placed a fine header which seemed to be heading for goal, until the United goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, somehow kept him out.
