MAN UTD 4-0 CHE: Lampard & Pulisic debut end in heavy defeat

Manchester United was too hot to handle for the Blues as the Red Devils inflict a 4-0 defeat on Chelsea in their Premier League opener and in the process ruined Frank Lampard debut in top English flight football.

Rashford scored a brace while Anthony Martial and David James were also on the song for Manchester United.

Tammy Abraham was denied by the woodwork in the 4th minute of the clash after a nice pass from Pedro, Chelsea created some chances in the opening 10 minute but they were unable to convert any of the chances createdafter10 minutes of play.

Mason Mount had a break after been released by Pedro in the midfield but his effort was well taken care of by Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma caught Marcos Rashford in the area and the referee points to the penalty spot and the Manchester United striker did well from the spot in the 18th minute to give the Red Devil the lead.

Both teams played an end to end attacking game, Ross Barkley attempted a shot in the 35th minute but his effort went off the mark.

Chelsea was unlucky once again after Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka failed to clear a cross that fell to Emerson Palmieri way but the former Napoli defender's shot was crashed against the woodwork for the second time.

The first half ended in favour of Manchester United thanks to Rashford's goal from the penalty spot.

The second half witnessed Chelsea gunning for the equaliser but Manchester United remained disciplined at the backline.

Palmieri fired in a shot but De Gea was at the right spot to make a stunning save in the 56th minute to deny the Chelsea defender.

Christain Pulisic was thrown in as Frank Lampard withdrew Barkley in the 58th minute.

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial led a counter-attack and the Frenchman ended up putting the ball at the back of the net to make it 2-0 in the 65th minute.

It took no long Lampard withdrew Abraham and brought in Olivier Giroud but it was Chelsea that scored another goal after Paul Pogba connected Rashford with a long-range pass in the heart of Chelsea's defence, the English forward finished the attack calmly with good composure on the ball to give Machester United the third goal and a brace to his name in the 67th minute.

N'Golo Kante was brought on for Jorginho in the 73rd minute while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer substituted Andreas Pereira for David James.

Substitute David James added another goal to make it 4-0 in favour of Manchester United from a swift counter attacker lead by Pobga with just eight minutes to go.
