Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reacted in facing his former player Frank Lampard's Derby County in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford next month.

Red Devils host the Championship side in the third round of the competition with ex-England international is the current man in charge at Pride Park Stadium since going after into management in May.

Lampard played under Mourinho during his first spell with dethroned Premier League Champion Chelsea and winning six titles together at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese will now face the Blues legend in the dug-out at Old Trafford September 24 and Manchester United boss admitted it was no surprise the former West Ham players became a coach.

Mourinho told the club website: "I don’t think it’s strange, it’s nice.

"My first generation of players at Porto and Chelsea have finished their careers and many of them have become managers.

"Frank is the first that I’m going to play against and it’s not strange at all. He always wanted to be a manager.

"I think his objective is to win a top-two position in the Championship to be promoted, but of course we had Derby County last season in the FA Cup at Old Trafford and every team from the Championship that visits a Premier League team is always a special motivation for them.

Manchester United travel to Turf Moore to face Burnley on Sunday after back to back Premier League loss.
