Manchester United are set to postpone the proposed renovation of Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho prepares for another summer spending spree.

The Red Devils were thought to have drawn up plans to bolster their home ground from 75,000 to 88,000 this summer to improve the atmosphere and corporate facilities at the Theatre of Dreams.

According to the Daily Mail who have reported that the perennial champions have shelved their proposals to increase with an additional 13,000 seats to the stadium and hand over significant funds to the Portuguese manager instead.

Mourinho has spent £300 million already on new signings since he took up the reins in the summer of 2016 and the 55-year-old Manchester United coach has demanded substantial backing from the board in the transfer market at the end of the season.

Red Devils chiefs, including executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, are ready to prioritise Mourinho's recruitment strategy over the upgrade of Old Trafford.

Manchester United sit in second place in the Premier League and 13 points behind their major rivals Manchester City.
