Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic suffers huge blow ahead of his return to Chelsea next month after withdrawing from Serbia duty because of an unspecified injury.

The 30-year-old joined up with his country following Red Devil's thrilling 3-2 Premier League win over Newcastle United on Saturday at Old Trafford in which he played for the entire duration of the encounter.

Manchester United confirmed Matic had returned to the club via their official website "to complete his rehabilitation”, ruling him out of the UEFA Nations League fixtures in Montenegro and Romania this week.

The midfielder could also be sidelined for United’s crunch Stamford Bridge clash when they return to action after the international break

Matic had two spells with the dethroned Premier League Champions while Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club, joining the former Chelsea manager at Old Trafford in the summer of 2017.

The news of Matic arriving back at United early comes a day after full-back Luke Shaw pulled out of the England squad for their doubleheader against Croatia and Spain.
