Manchester United beat Swansea 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday to return to second on the Premier League table.

Romelu Lukaku opened scoring for the Red Devils in the fifth minute, before Alexis Sanchez made it two after 20 minutes to give them maximum points.

United have been undone over the last two seasons after the international break, but the early signs here proved it was always going to be a different story. That was the case as early as the fifth minute when Sanchez found himself in a good position inside the box but decided to pass the ball to Lukaku, who keeps his cool and blasted the ball into the top left corner. What a finish that was.

The Red Devils had started brightly here, and five minutes later, Lukaku collected a great pass inside the box and missed a golden opportunity. His low drive was headed for the bottom left corner, but the goalkeeper pulled off a marvellous diving save and denied him.

A glorious evening it was turning out to be and their superiority was confirmed in the 20th minute, as Jesse Lingard played a simple square pass into the feet of Alexis Sanchez in the box, who composed himself and lashed the ball into the bottom left corner.

Jose Mourinho’s men were cruising as they went into the break with the lead.

The first few moments in the opening exchanges didn’t witness real chances being created, as United appeared comfortable with their two-goal cushion.

The second half would get its first chance in the 55th minute, as a decent cross gave Sanchez a chance to score, but he sent his header inches over the bar from close range. Two minutes later, Juan Mata latched onto a brilliant cross and fired the ball towards goal, but his shot went high over the crossbar.

Swansea were not without their chances, but it was United who were the better side in the end and secured a much-deserved win.
