Spanish Champions Barcelona on Wednesday edged South Africa's Premier League side Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the 2018 edition of the Mandela Cup at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

In what was the Catalans' second-to-last match of the season, their host on the night Sundowns denied kept Lionel Messi at bare but couldn't keep out Ousmane Dembele and  Luis Suarez.

Two first-half goals from Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez put the visitors in the driving seat at half-time.

Andre Gomes extended the visitors' lead with a fine finish after coming on for Andres Iniesta in the second. Vilakazi's strike in the final 14 minutes was a mere consolation for the PSL outfit who will now shift focus to a CAF Champions League fixture away from home against Horoya next Tuesday.

Up next for Barcelona is a home tie against Real Sociedad in their final league game of the season. The Catalans will hope to bounce back from their 5-4 defeat to Levante last weekend which ended their unbeaten La Liga streak this season.
