Real Madrid have confirmed the contract extension of Marcelo with the expiry date now moved from 2020 to 2022.
The Champions League holders announced that the signing of this new deal will take place this Thursday, making this new agreement official.
A statement by
the club reads: "Real Madrid C. F. and Marcelo have agreed to extend the player's contract, which will see him remain at the club until 30 June 2022.
"Tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm
, Marcelo will appear before the media in the press room of
the Santiago Bernabéu stadium."
The left-back was just 18 years old when he arrived at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in 2007 and he has gone on to become a vice-captain and to feature in 415 matches.
With this extension, Marcelo now has his sights set on his predecessor and idol Roberto Carlos's record for a foreigner of 527 appearances with
