Mikel set to return to Super Eagles ahead of AFCON 2019

Nigerian captain John Obi Mikel set to return to Super Eagles ahead of 2019 Africa Cup of Nation in Egypt.

The 32-year-old midfielder last feature for Gernot Rohr men at the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Argentina in the 2-1 loss in the last group game in Russia.

Mikel has miss Super Eagles seven games including five qualifying matches en route Egypt 2019, prompting speculations he might have decided to call time on his international career but the Jos-born star availability for next month’s Africa showpiece.

Chelsea legend told that he had a private meeting with the Nigeria coach in England to clarify issues and the national team skipper has decided to feature at 2019 Africa Cup of Nation when it kicks off in Egypt next month.

"I met with coach Rohr and we discussed his plans for the team in the forthcoming tournament. All I can say is that I am delighted and happy because I am coming to the Nations Cup.

Rohr will release his 26-man provisional squad for the competition this week with Mikel’s name expected to be among the invitees.

The Super Eagles will begin preparation.for the 32nd Africa Cup of Nations on 2nd June in Asaba, Delta State.
