The newly crowned Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric has revealed his next plans after breaking the duopoly of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win the award after ten years of dominance by the Juventus and Barcelona forwards.

The Real Madrid midfielder is looking up to the next challenge ahead as he his team prepares for the Copa Del Rey clash with Melilla on Thursday and the coming World Club Cup later this month.

And according to the report in Marca,  Modric said: "It's difficult to find the words to express how I feel," he admitted.

"I'm very happy and grateful to everyone who recognised my journey."

"I held back the tears, it's been an exceptional night to form part of these players who have won this prize."

After speculation in the summer, Modric was also quizzed on what his plans were for the future.

"I have two years left and hopefully one more," the 33-year-old said.

"The club show me a lot of affection and I'd like to retire at Real Madrid.

"My family enjoy it and I want to keep enjoying this huge club."

That has not removed Modric's competitive edge though, as even amid the celebrations he was focused on the next challenge.

"[Antoine] Griezmann and [Kylian] Mbappe have congratulated me, it's a dream year," Modric said of his rivals.

"As a person I want more with my team, starting with the World Club Cup."

Modric will return to Madrid ahead of Thursday's Copa del Rey tie with UD Melilla.
