Jose Mourinho has brands Newcastle United players animals after a 1-0 shock win over Manchester United at Saint James Park on Sunday afternoon.

Matt Ritchie scored the only goals for Magpies in the encounter in the 65 minutes which leave the Red Devils 16 points behind their arch-rival Manchester City with eleven games to go.

The 55-year-old Portuguese claimed the Newcastle players fought for their lives, branding them animals - and meant it as a compliment.

“They fought like animals - I hope they take that as a compliment,” quoted by official website

“Newcastle gave what they have and what they don't have, that's a beautiful thing in football.

"They fought for their point, a point is what they had in mind. We made a defensive mistake and when they are in front they had only one thing in mind and gave their lives to keep a clean sheet."

Mourinho has never won in Newcastle at their own turf.
