Mourinho drew up a list of strikers to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer, options that included Everton’s Lukaku, Real Madrid hitman Alvaro Morata, and Torino frontman Andrea Belotti. But Lacazette was not listed as a viable candidate, with Mourinho eventually opting to sign Lukaku in a deal worth £75m with Wayne Rooney sign for Everton.
