Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho could not hide his fury at the performances of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera during the opening stages of Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final with Tottenham.

Spurs got off to a flying start at Wembley and took the lead in the 11th minute as Dele Alli got on the end of Christian Eriksen’s fine cross from the right flank.

Red Devils midfield struggled to cope with Eriksen’s movement, and an angry Mourinho could be seen shouting at his players on the touchline.

Both Herrera and Pogba were targeted by Mourinho, and at one stage early in the first half, the United boss even called the Spanish midfielder over to the touchline to ensure his message was received.

"He was going mad at Herrera and Pogba,’ Phil Neville told BBC Sport.

"Because of the space in behind Herrera – he lacks so much discipline. ‘Shouting at Herrera just to stay in the space on Alli.

"It was the discipline in midfield, particularly from Herrera, that was really poor in that first 21 minutes.

Pogba redeems himself from the first half performance to dispossessed Mousa Dembele and then put over a brilliant cross for Alexis Sanchez and the United forward’s perfect header wrong-footed Spurs keeper Michel Vorm.

Herrera’s low shot flew past Tottenham’s stand-in keeper Vorm to spark wild celebrations and what proved to be the winner in the second half as Mourinho side edges closer to winning a trophy this season

Manchester United will battle the winner of the second semi-final between Chelsea and Southampton in the final of the Emirate FA Cup in May.
