Napoli forward Dries Mertens reportedly bought pizzas for the city’s homeless after December’s trip to Torino.

The 30-year-old Belguim international didn’t manage to score in the 3-1 win over Torino and at the time was going through something of a goal drought.

According to Corriere Del Mezzogiorno, Martens returned to the city he called up one of his closest friends and suggested that they buy some food for the homeless in the city and spent the rest of the evening in December cutting up Margheritas and delivering them to homeless people across the town.

The Napoli star was cut them into slices before giving them to the homeless, but the story has only emerged now.

Former Gent and PSV forward is well known for his attachment to Naples, as he also stepped in to fund a shelter for abandoned dogs which risked going out of business.

Merten has scored 16 goals in 26 appearances for Napoli as the Naples could be a first Serie A title in 28 years.
