Former Barcelona and Juventus defender Dani Alves says new Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar was the one who convinced him to sign for the Ligue 1 club.
Many have assumed that one of the reasons Neymar wanted to move to Paris Saint-Germain was the presence of his friend Dani Alves, but the right-back has explained that the persuasion was the other way round, even if he joined PSG first.PHOTOS: PSG win without Neymar after lap of honourThe cheque PSG used to pay Neymar's transfer leaks onlinePSG new boy Neymar denies Messi impact
"In contrast to what people think, I am the grateful one because Neymar was the one who convinced me to join PSG.
"I didn't have anything to do with [his transfer]. I only told him to be happy.
"My arrival wasn't planned, but if he was able to convince me then it was because he was thinking about coming, I would say." Alves said in MARCA after the PSG's 2-0 win over Amiens.
Neymar was the centre of attention, but Edinson Cavani was at the heart of PSG's win. The Uruguay international enjoyed a bumper 2016-17, and looks to have returned to France in razor-sharp condition as PSG opened the Ligue 1 season with a 2-0 defeat of Amiens SC.
