Nigerian star nominated for Best Player Award in Portugal

Nigerian defender Kelechi John has been nominated for the Best Player Award in the regular season of the Portuguese Liga Revelacao for the 2018-2019 campaign.

The 20-year-old Rio Ave center-back impressive performance in Portugal has already earned him an international call-up for U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya.

According to The Professional Football Players’ Union (SJPF) informed that voting to select the Best Player of the regular season will take place on the website of the Players’ Union.

The former Plateau United starlet was nominated alongside teammates Vitó, Diogo Teixeira, Leandro and eighteen other players on the books of Aves, Belenenses, Benfica, Estoril, Marítimo, Portimonense, Sporting and Vitória SC for the gong.

The race for the best player award in the Revelation League has already begun and will be the fans to decide who takes the award home and voting will take place on the website of the Players' Union and only have to vote in one of the 22 nominees until March 14th.

John is one of the foreign-based professionals invited by Nigeria national Under-23 Coach Imama Amakapabo for Abuja camp ahead of Libya clash.
