Iniabasi Umotong scored a brace for Oxford over the weekend, but it wasn't enough to save them from defeat.

Super Falcons striker Iniabasi Umotong scored a brace for Oxford United over the weekend, but also got sent off as they lost 3-2 to Sheffield FC over the weekend.

It only took 17 minutes for the 22-year old to break the deadlock and hand her side the lead, and almost doubled the lead 11 minutes later, as her fine effort was saved by the opposing goalkeeper to deny her.

However, they would live to regret that miss as Sheffield scored thrice in the second half by Jenna Dear, Emma Johnson, and Ellie Gilliatt which ensured the home side took a 3-1 lead, but Umotong was on hand again to strike for Oxford in the 76th minute. But in the end, it proved too little too late, as they couldn’t get another one, with Umotong’s second strike turning out to be just a consolation in the end.

She however got sent off almost immediately after scoring the second goal, after receiving her second yellow card for clashing with the opposing goalkeeper as she was rushing to get the ball out of the net.

The Nigerian who bagged 13 goals in 17 games to grab the top scorer award last season, has now scored four goals in six games this season.

The defeat sees Oxford falls to the ninth on the league table with two points from six matches. They will face fourth-placed Millwall Lionesses at St Paul's Sports Ground on April 22.
