Nigerians react to end to Super Eagles' unbeaten run

Super Eagles By: Collins Udeme | 28/03/2018

Nigerians fans have had their say on the Super Eagles defeat to Serbia on Tuesday, which brought an end to Nigeria's six matches unbeaten run.

An under-strength Super Eagles failed to fly in London on Tuesday night as two second-half goals by Serbian forward Aleksandr Mitrovic condemned Gernot Rohr to only his second defeat in 14 matches in charge of Nigeria.

With Captain Mikel Obi unable to leave China due to work permit issue, midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo still down with injury and forward Kelechi Iheanacho knocked out by a broken arm, Rohr saw his squad further depleted just before the contingent left for the stadium as defender Leon Balogun reported sick and had to be replaced.

In the event, Chidozie Awaziem took Balogun’s place on the left of William Ekong, and with Tyronne Ebuehi also starting at right back instead of Abdullahi Shehu, half of the backline from the win over Poland in Wroclaw on Friday rested on the bench. A different formation from the one adopted in Wroclaw also meant big forward Odion Ighalo started from the bench.

Here were bring excerpts of our readers' opinions on the outcome of the game.

Daniel Atte: "Today game was more classic than the polish game. We play well with accurate pass but the Serbian we so quick than us. Maybe Iwobi should be converted to a midfielder, he dribbles too much rather he should run an make a quick cross as a modern winger. Ebuehi is not fit for a 90munites game, his weakness cause the first goal. Generally, we play more tactical game."

Richard Sokoh: "Welldon super Eagles you guy's will use this defeat to work on the mistakes this is a good friendly game its not bad to win Poland at home and lost the second match against Serbia in London the technical and coaching team should work very hard to get it right before the world cup proper."

Zion Train: "No midfield we were false to play serbia pattern of football , from the beginning of the game , I told my friends that Serbia is going to win 3:0 and the only thing that stop that from happening was the ref again to deny them a goal... till now we still don't have a midfield that can play good football without Obi Mikel. We have good player who can fit , call players Anderson Esiti we need some old boys back Martins, Ejide . After world cup we have a whole four years to build new young team. Even Germany still playing with some old boys world cup not for kids or practise be wise bring back Eyeama, call players both old and new let them prove their worth, ighalo is not scoring goals and not even danger, we saw Emenike, and Martins in the past. Martins still the best we have in that section give him a call up Anderson Esiti , the most physical African midfielder in Europe. Why don't call boys who can play football rather than kids. World cup not for kids call player not snap chat kids."

Nathaniel Silas: "Yes it was not a bad game anyway! I like it that way at least to wake up.

And I love the coach wisdom for not fielding the best players, one of our rivals came to spy on our players and the coach applied wisdom.

So its not a bad game at all."

Johnson Emmanuel: "Our guys played well but we have some work to be done on our midfield and the coach v to do sometime about it before the world cup at least we r better than Argentina that lost 6:1 against Spain which i know we cant conceive such goal from Spain. I expect a different Eagles come our next two games. Goodluck!!."

Solomon De King: "Pls can anybody remind me of any time that Onazi captained us and we won? At least I remember the 2 nil loss against South Africa, here at home and this one against Serbia."

Cyrian Cherry Dike: "Joel Obi is a total flop..lacks confidence..can't even distribute d ball properly..Oghenekaro Etebo shud have been a better replacement for Mikel."

Emmanuel Efojie: "Nice match today. Let the world underrate us. We will storm Russia. Croatia scouts were present. I expected Nigeria to lose. It's good one."

Moses Amaefula: "I couldn't watch the match but the loss is good for us to waken us up and reduce pompous attitude on our super eagle players, which most times they are fond of!"
