Mountain of Fire & Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC stunned former coach Fidelis Ilechukwu side Heartland 1-0 in Okigwe as Rivers United held Kano Pillars to a goalless draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium in the season-opening games of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Clement Ogwu’s 39th-minute goal was enough to hand the Olukoya Boys a precious three points in their first competitive match under their new manager Tony Bolous.

In Kano, Four-time champions, Pillars were held to a 0-0 draw by Rivers United in a keenly contested game at the Sani Abacha Stadium as the game was played behind closed doors due to Masu Gida punishment from their fans’ behaviour during the Super Six encounter at Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Plateau United have taken an early lead on the NPFL log following their 3-1 win over Lobi Stars at the New Jos City Stadium on Sunday after Abdu Maikaba men raced to a two-goal lead courtesy of Nerot Silas’ 17th-minute strike and a Solomon Kwambe own-goal but Lobi halved the deficit on the 32nd minute through a Sikiru Alimi penalty.

The home side regained their two-goal lead in the 67th minute with Amos Gyang converting from close range after he was set up by Micheal Ibeh to send the 2017 league winners to the summit of the league table after Matchday One.

Mfon Udoh saved his side, Akwa United, the blushed when his equaliser secured a point for the Uyo side at the Warri City Stadium on Sunday against returnees, Warri Wolves on the opening day of the NPFL 2019/20 season.

Two other games; Enyimba vs Nasarawa United and Rangers vs Sunshine Stars were rescheduled due to Enyimba and Rangers’ CAF Confederation Cup games on Sunday. The two former champions won their respective games and booked their places in the group stage of the continental competition.
