NPFL: Akwa held at home as MFM beat Katsina in nervy win

Akwa United held at home by Abia Warriors in score draw as MFM beat Katsina United in a nervy win at the Soccer Temple on Monday evening.

Ibrahim Olawoyin put the visitor ahead 30th minutes into the encounter before Uyo base side level the score through Godspower Aniefiok one minute later but Samson Obi scored for the away side eight minutes from and Ocheme Edoh equalise for the home team in the 89th minutes to end the match 2-2.

Adeniji Kabir put the Olukoya Boys ahead in the 11th minute but Timothy Danladi equalised for the visitors five minutes after the break before Jonathan Zikiye scored deep into stoppage time as MFM defeated Katsina United 2-1 at the Agege Stadium.

In Aba, Enyimba edged out hard-fighting Niger Tornadoes 2-0 with Ifeanyi Anaemena (from the penalty spot) and Ibrahim Mustapha getting the goals.

The Peoples Elephant have retained the third position in the Group A table with 33 points from 21 games.

FC Ifeanyiubah only need to win their final game of the regular season at home against already-qualified Akwa United on Sunday to qualify for the NPFL championship playoffs after they stunned hosts El Kanemi Warriors 1-0 in Maiduguri.

Chibuike Ezeh scored the winning goal 12 minutes from time.

In, Kano Pillars booked a place in the playoff courtesy of a 2-0 win against Delta Force at the Sani Abacha Stadium with Rabiu Ali and Auwalu Ali were on target for the Sai Masu Gida in the game, while Bendel Insurance boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 home win against Sunshine Stars at the Uniben Sports Complex.
