Katsina United played a 2-2 scored draw with Kano Pillars in the opening fixture of the 2018 Nigeria Professional Football League at the Mohammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Saturday.
Junior Lokossa stunned the home fans in the 33rd minute, slotting the ball home after he was put through on goal by Victor Dennis.
The Sai Masu Gida stood firm despite spirited efforts by the hosts to get back into the game.
Pillars were reduced to 10 men two minutes before the break when Dennis was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Eric Gwammy
Katsina United leveled scores through Ajanachinedu Chukwujekwu, who nodded home Destiny Ashadi’s free kick in first-half added time.
Pillars took the lead again in the 61st minute through Ibrahim Alhassan before home side Muhammed Hassaini in the 83rd minute lost his spot kick as Pillars goalkeeper David Obiozor saved.
Katsina gets another penalty in the dying minutes of the injury time as Ashadi step up to converted from the spot in the 95th minute to ensured scored draw at opening the encounter.
The rest of the NPFL matches will be played across different centres
of Nigeria on Sunday.
