NPFL: Enyimba suffer Mfon Udoh blow ahead of MFM FC clash

NPFL By: Ambrose Udeme | 06/08/2017

Enyimba's chances of picking up maximum points in Lagos when they file out against MFM FC at the Agege stadium on Sunday may have been limited after their reliable goal poacher Mfon Udoh suffered a calf sprain less than 24 hours to the NPFL match day 33 fixture.

A fine run of form for the Aba Landlords - who have spent the last two seasons away from Aba and are now playing their home games in the ancient city of Calabar - will see them cement a continental slot, and maybe have half a shot at the title.

Sunday's away fixture to second-placed MFM FC who will be looking to keep tabs on leaders Plateau at the top of the table presents Enyimba with another opportunity to move up the league table and now it remains to be seen how they will cope without their captain who joined the team from the Super Eagles camp in Kano on Friday.

A close source to the player in an exclusive chat with FCNaija.com said: "Mfon may not be part of Sunday's fixture as he has a slight knock. He complained to the medical team about a calf problem on Saturday night.

"It remains to be seen if the medical staff can put him in good shape just in time for the game against the high flying MFMF FC. Personally I doubt if he will want to sit out the game as he is very stubborn and wants to play every match in a bid to help the team as their leader."

Udoh who holds the League's all-time top scorer record in a single season has found the back of the net 12 times this season, six goals behind MFM FC's Stephen Odey who leads the 2016/17 NPFL golden boot race.

Enyimba who one of the most decorated teams of the modern day Nigerian game are in fourth place, a point below Akwa United in third, one point above El-Kanemi Warriors in fifth and three points above sixth placed Nasarawa United.
