Seven-time Nigerian league champions and continental football superpower, Rangers International F.C are set to face debutant, Yobe Desert Stars in their rescheduled match day 15 fixture.

The core of the players want to use the expected win as a perfect birthday present to its number one supporter and financier, Enugu state governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who turned 54 years recently and the General Manager/CEO, Prince Davidson Owumi who is marking his birthday on match day.

The contending sides under well travelled coaches in the persons of Coach Olugbenga Ogunbote of Rangers and Mohammed Baba Ganaru of Yobe Stars have really not started the season on a good note but have gradually worked their way to the top half of the twenty team log.

Rangers have lost just once in their last six fixtures winning twice and three ended in draws while the visiting side from Damaturu have secured two wins, one draw and three losses in its last six matches with all to play for in this mid-week fixture which is the first meeting between both sides.

Ifeanyi George, who got a brace in Omoku against Go-Round in a match day 14 encounter is available for selection by coach Ogunbote just as the other starters in that game that saw the ‘Flying Antelopes’ surrender a two goals first half lead to be forced to a draw while Godwin Aguda and Shedrack Francis are out injured.

For the coach Babaganaru tutored side, former Heartland duo of Chidiebere Ajoku and Osita Echendu are on the trip to Enugu and would be expected to anchor the middle of the pack with former Enyimba lanky defender, Mustapha will lead the defence line.

With fifteen goals scored so far in the season, Yobe Stars attackers will be hoping to increase their goals haul but will be weary of their leaky back line that have been breached sixteen times since the start of the season while Rangers will be working hard to continue their fine form that have seen the team scored eleven times and cracking eleven times.

Coach Ogunbote said ahead of the match, “We expect a good game from Yobe Stars with our eyes set on the three available points. The players know what is at stake and we shall approach the match as a cup final. Yes, our current position does worry me but I trust the talent we have at our disposal to take us to the top of the log soonest.”

Bright Silas, the pint sized wing wizard said, “There is no cause for worries. We know what is at stake and our target for the season. The three points are not negotiable.”

Fans are assured of good football artistry as Rangers take the visitors, Yobe Desert Stars to their slaughter slab, the ‘Cathedral’, Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu.
