Maiduguri fans had a lot to cheer on Sunday as the NPFL Match Day 32 contest between El-Kanemi Warriors and Sunshine Stars served five goals; the highest for the weekend.
At the end, it was Elkanemi that emerged victorious; beating Sunshine Stars 3-2.
It was Hussaini Bata that set the tone for the day; scoring from the spot to give the hosts the lead after Sunshine's Ojo Mine was adjudged to have handled the ball in his box.
However, the Akure Gunners gave an instant response as they pulled leveled moments after through Samad Kadiri who made the most of the defensive error from El-kanemi.
Five minutes after the equalizer, El-Kanemi were back in front after Sunshine's Taye ISiaka turned in Bata's effort into his own goal.
The hosts were awarded a second spot kick in the game after Ariyo brought down Ohanachom in the box. Though the awarded kick was protested against, the referee stood his ground and the hosts converted the penalty kick to take a 3-1 lead into the second half.
Though Sunshine pulled one back in the second half, it was not enough to earn them a share of the spoils as El-Kanemi held on to all three points to move to 12th spot on the log .
