The club has informed the Spanish tactician that his services are is no longer needed at the Mestalla Stadium, Marcelino helped Valencia to the Copa del Rey triumph against Barcelona.

He was dismissed due to disagreement with the management of the club. Marcelino is one of Valencia most successful managers, he was sacked just days before the big clash against Barcelona and the Champions League game against Chelsea.

Former Real Madrid player Albert Celades was named as his replacement, he was the assistant of Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid last season and also managed Spain's Under-21 as the head coach for four years (he lost the 2017 European Under-21 Championship final to Germany), after having coached the Under-17 and Under-16 teams.
