Official: Nigerian youngster leaves Arsenal

Arsenal defender of Nigerian descent Marc Bola has left Arsenal for a loan spell at Bristol Rovers for the 2016/17 campaign.

The 19 year-old left-back spent the second half of last term on loan with Notts County, where he made 13 league outings in League Two.

Confirming Bola's departure on Saturday, the Emirates outfit in an official statement on its website wrote: "Marc Bola has joined League One side Bristol Rovers on a season-long loan.

"Marc, who has been a regular with our under-23s, now heads to Bristol to gain more first team experience. We'd like to wish Marc and Bristol Rovers the best of luck for the season ahead."

The Athletic left-back Marc signed his first professional contract in April 2016, after an impressive second season as an academy scholar.

Comfortable playing in a number of roles across the back four, the powerful, attack-minded defender made 17 appearances for the under-21s, seven starts for the under-19s and featured on six occasions in the FA Youth Cup.

Besides helping the under-21s earn promotion into Division One with a play-off victory against Aston Villa, the Hale End graduate’s finest moment for the Gunners came when he scored against Fulham with a delightful 25-yard strike.
