Onyekuru furious with Anderlecht after World Cup snub

Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru is furious with his Belgian club Anderlecht after he was left out from Super Eagles Nigerian coach Gernot Rohr’s preliminary 30-man World Cup squad announced on Monday.

The 20-year-old was not included by the German tactician which could hamper Aspire Academy graduate chances of playing for his parent club Everton in the near future.

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Onyekuru is very angry on Sunday evening when he was axed from Anderlecht’s provisional squad against Gent in the playoffs and told to sit in the stands.

Former Eupen star claimed he is fit and missed the last opportunity to prove his fitness to Super Eagles coach Rohr and Nigerian Football Federation before they released the squad list for the tournament in Russia.

Anderlecht has reached an agreement with Everton to rent Onyekuru for another season, but the striker has to decide for himself whether he will stay because does not have a cordial relationship with the club boss.

Hein Vanhaezebrouck has often criticized Onyekuru for not playing to instruction and now that his World Cup opportunities were taken away from him, he doubts more to stay in Brussels. 

Everton loanee netting an impressive 10 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions prior to his spell on the sidelines.
