And Pogba, speaking to MUTV, was clearly pleased to claim such an emphatic victory over Pep Guardiola’s men but placed more emphasis on building fitness moving forward.
This is first Manchester City pre-season and as expected they were slow and could not match the level of intensity as Manchester United was faster having played two games ahead of their fellow rivals.
Mkhitaryan was too nimble, Ander Herrera too aggressive, Lukaku too powerful, Rashford too fast and Pogba – well, just too good, really.
This was, as Mourinho made clear before the game, nothing more than a competitive training session, but one that pointed towards things moving in the right direction.
