There is more cheering news coming as far as Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme is concerned as the recuperating shot-stopper has made his first public appearance since being diagnosed of acute leukemia in July 2017 and immediately commenced chemotherapy.

Ikeme had announced on June 23 that he is getting better and is a “complete remission”.

"After a year of intense chemotherapy, I would like to share that I am in complete REMISSION. I still have hurdles to pass to be cured, but hopefully, I can move on with some normality!

The player has now made his first public appearance since he began chemotherapy in 2017.

The 32-year-old was looking fit and healthy as he helped open a new Haematology & Oncology Day unit at Solihull Hospital.

Ikeme was there as a thanks to his friend and former consultant Manos Nikolousis, who first diagnosed him with leukemia last year.

The Wolves goalkeeper received treatment at sister hospital Heartlands before being cared for at a clinic in Manchester.

Clinical director Dr Nikolousis said the landmark facility would offer world class care.

He added "I'm really pleased to see Carl looking really healthy and making sure we did the best for Carl and all the patients we have.
