Planes fly over Hawthorns with Wenger banner wars

Arsenal fans who are divided over the future of Wenger clashed in the skies as contesting banners were flown over the Hawthorns during their clash against West Brom at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

The first - reading "No Contract #WengerOut" - tailed a plane ahead of the lunchtime kick-off.

The second - that read "In Arsene We Trust #RespectAW" - was flown over about 15 minutes into the Premier League game, with Arsenal trailing 1-0 to Craig Dawson's goal before Alexis Sanchez equalised.

Protests against Wenger have recently been held by small groups of fans outside Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, including before their home win over Lincoln in the FA Cup last weekend.

Wenger refused to comment about the protests in his pre-match press conference but has said he will consider fan opinion when deciding his future, which is still up in the air.

The Frenchman insists he will not decide whether to stay or go until the end of the season, when his current contract expires, but there is a new two-year deal on the table.
