Pogba returns as 3 key Manchester United stars miss training

Marouane Fellaini, Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling were the notable absentees from Manchester United training on Friday while Paul Pogba who missed the Red Devils' trips to Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton trained with the rest of the squad.

According to the Mirror, the trio were not involved in the 24-man session at United's AON Training Complex ahead of Sunday's final Premier League game of the season at home to Crystal Palace.

United boss Jose Mourinho revealed Smalling will miss the clash with Palace but should be fit next week, while he is waiting on scan results on Fellaini.

He will be desperate to be able to call upon Fellaini and Smalling for the Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm next Wednesday, for which Bailly is suspended.

Mourinho has vowed to play a bunch of United youngsters against Palace, with Scott McTominay, Matty Willock and Demetri Mitchell all likely to start, while Portuguese goalkeeper Joel Pereira will make his full debut.

During his press conference, Mourinho said: "Smalling has a problem, a smalll problem that I think it is no probem for next week, but is a porblem fo the weekend. Marouane is a question mark. We wait for today’s scans.

"Fosu-Mensah plays Sunday and if the reaction is good the he is a new option for the final. “For the kids it will be a great experience to play in the Premier League in the last match of the season.

"It will be a big occasion but I think the best for the young player is in the middle of an experienced structure, where he can be supported. To play so many kids at the same time I don’t think it’s good because there is a big difference in quality strength and experience.”

"Lots of them together, no. I will bring three or four first team players to play one half where I can give some experience to the team."
